Often, couples come to me unsure if they would like to have engagement photos taken. I actually include them in my basic wedding package because I think they’re so important, but many times I photograph couples who’ve already hired a wedding photographer back home, but want to take photos here in Auburn. I wanted to give several suggestions if you’re unsure whether you’d like engagement photos.
1. Engagement sessions allow you and your photographer to get to know each other before the wedding day.
Your wedding day will be busy and things will move pretty quickly. By taking engagement photos, you’ll have a good idea of how your photographer works and will know her personality and style better.
On the other hand, it will help your photographer to know the two of you! Maybe you blink *right* when the shutter clicks, or you might just fit perfectly into a certain pose. Although it’s totally possible to adapt to those things on the wedding day, it’s great to begin with that knowledge!
This photo of Jake & Catherine is a great example… thanks to our engagement session together, I knew they’d be pro’s with this pose… one of my favorites from the wedding!
2. Engagement photos provide you with professional photos together in regular clothing.
I recommend this as a photographer, but also as a wife myself! As much as I love our wedding photos, I also like to display photos of us around the house that do not feature our wedding clothes. I recommend a good balance of both, and someday you can add a few photos of the kids, too! ;)
3. An engagement session should be a fun experience!
Your engagement session should be a celebration of your love and your relationship! Snuggling, kissing, smiling together… these couple hours are devoted just to the two of you. Even if you’re not a mushy-gushy couple, your love should be captured in photos.
Nothing more fun than a rainy evening!
4. These photos can be used for a variety of purposes….
As I mentioned above, wall art is a great way to display these images. They can also be used in a variety of other ways, like save-the-dates, guestbook albums, as well the option of a display at your wedding reception!
If you’re weighing whether you’d like to have an engagement session, please feel free to give me a call today! We can explore some of the options you have (location, length, style, etc.) and hopefully set up a time, too!
