I will never, ever claim to be a fashion expert. In fact, I’d probably be happiest in shorts, a t-shirt, and flip flops, but I realize that life demands a bit more effort than that in the fashion department. I do, however, recognize things that have worked well for couples in the past in regards to their engagement session outfits.
Although I’ve chosen five areas to focus on today, there are many things to consider when choosing your engagement session outfit. If you’re one of my brides, we’ll definitely take some time to discuss this before your session (sometimes it’s as simple as a confirmation that you don’t need my advice!). Because I have several pieces of advice, I’ll be splitting this into a two-part blog post.
Environment + Style
First off, it is important to make sure that your clothes match the environment and style of the photos. If you’re hoping for classy, more formal photos, jeans and a sweatshirt might not be appropriate. On the other hand, if you’re hoping for some cozy outdoor photos in nature, more casual dress would work well.

Complementary Outfits
Another important thing to consider is making sure that you and your fiancé have clothing that complements each other. Too many patterns can be distracting, so try to minimize the pieces that feature a pattern. You also want to avoid clashing colors. If you’re struggling with what color palette you’d like to use, I highly recommend a quick google search to make sure your colors go together and get ideas for colors you might not have thought of.

Layering
One aspect couples often forget to include is layering. These are simple touches that make drastic differences in the overall effect of your outfits. Scarves, jackets, and hats are just a few of the options you have here.
